Testing Exceptions for
Praxis I: Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST)
|

|
|
-
Applicants who have previously taken and passed by
Nevada standards computer-based testing (including the previous
Computer Based Academic Skills Assessment tests 0711, 0721, and
0731) or who can provide an original Permanent Verification Card
which confirms that you have passed the California Basic Education
Skills Test (CBEST).

Applicants who have earned a Master's or higher
degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
-
Applicants who: 1) Have taken the Graduate Record
Examinations (GRE) and have received the following minimum scores:
a) GRE Verbal: 420; b) GRE Quantitative: 460; and c) GRE Analytical:
430 or 3.5; and 2) Have completed an undergraduate degree with a
3.0+ grade point average. The grade point average must be identified
on the official transcript.

Applicants who have taken the PPST or CBT (reading,
writing, and math tests) at least once and failed to meet one or
more of the passing scores have the option of taking course(s)
identified by the Commission on Professional Standards. You must
earn a grade of "B" or better the course to satisfy the requirement.
Official transcripts must be submitted upon course completion.
Course work waiver list for PPST.

Out-of-State applicants with a valid standard*
license from a state other than Iowa, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming,
or the Department of Defense Dependent Schools, or any U.S.
Territory with the exception of Puerto Rico and Guam and who have
one year of verified full-time contracted teaching experience.
Submit the
Verification of Teaching Experience Form and copy of
license.

Out-of-State applicants with a valid standard*
license from Iowa, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming or any U.S. Territory
with the exception of Puerto Rico and Guam and 3 years of verified
full-time contracted teaching experience within the past 5 years in
the subject area(s) for which they are receiving a Nevada license.
Submit the
Verification of Teaching Experience Form and copy of
license.
Testing Exception for
Praxis II: Principles of Learning and Teaching Tests
(PLT)

Out-of-State applicants with a valid standard*
license from a state other than Alaska, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa,
Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Vermont,
Virginia, or the Department of Defense Dependent Schools, or any
U.S. Territories with the exception of Puerto Rico and who have one
year of verified full-time contracted teaching experience. Submit
the
Verification of Teaching Experience Form and copy of license.

Out-of-State applicants with a valid standard*
license from Alaska, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Michigan, Montana,
Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Vermont, Virginia, or any U.S.
Territories with the exception of Puerto Rico and 3 years of
verified full-time contracted teaching experience within the past 5
years in the subject area(s) for which they are receiving a Nevada
license. Submit the
Verification of Teaching Experience Form and
copy of license.

Applicants for an initial license with endorsements
in areas for which training in the principles and methods of
teaching is not required (i.e., counselors, school psychologists,
nurses, social workers, speech therapists, business and industry
teachers, and early childhood teachers).

Applicants who have taken both the Curriculum
Instruction and Assessment (0011) and the Content Area Exercises
(0012) tests and qualify for an Elementary (K-8) license.

Applicants who have taken both the Physical
Education: Content Knowledge (0091) and Physical Education: Movement
Forms – Analysis and Design (0092) tests and who qualify for a
Physical Education endorsement.

Applicants who have taken a subject specific pedagogy
test in: Biological Science (0234), English (0043), Mathematics
(0065), or Physical Science (0483) and who qualify for the
corresponding endorsement.
Testing Exceptions for Praxis II: Subject Assessments

Out-of-State applicants with a valid standard*
license from a state other than Iowa, Maine, Montana, Nebraska,
Rhode Island, or the Department of Defense Dependent Schools, or any
U.S. Territories with the exception of Puerto Rico and who have one
year of verified full-time contracted teaching experience. Submit
the
Verification of Teaching Experience Form and copy of license.

Applicants for the Speech and Language Handicapped
endorsement who provide official documentation of having received
the Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by the American
Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or who provide official
documentation of having passed the Speech-Language Pathology test
(Code 0330) with a score of 600 as required by ASHA.

Applicants for the Home Economics endorsement who
provide official documentation of satisfactory completion of the
American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS)/
Council for Certification (CFC) National examination: Family and
Consumer Sciences (FCS) - composite examination.
* If you hold a temporary permit or letter of
qualification, emergency, alternative, conditional, preliminary,
provisional, restrictive, pre-intern, etc., type of license/
certificate/credential, you will need to provide the Office of Teacher
Licensure with evidence that you have passed competency testing by your
state’s standards.
