To receive an endorsement as a Reading Specialist, a person must:

1. Hold a master’s degree; and
    

2. Have 3 years of verified experience as a teacher in state-approved schools; and
    

3. Hold a valid elementary, middle school or junior high, secondary or special teaching license, excluding Business and Industry and Special Qualifications; and
    

4. Have completed at least 16 graduate semester credits in reading to include coursework in each of the following areas:

1. Foundations of reading;

2. Etiology and diagnosis of reading problems;

3. A practicum in reading; and

4. Research in reading.
