To receive an endorsement to teach
dance, a person must
-
Hold an
elementary, middle school/junior
high, secondary or special teaching
license (excluding Business and
Industry and Special Qualifications
license); and
-
Have completed:
-
A
program for the teaching of dance
education which has been approved by
the Board; or
-
A
combination of at least 16 semester
credits in any of the
following:
-
At least 2 semester credits in
the fundamentals of dance,
including, but not limited to:
-
Awareness of the body;
-
The basic principles of dance;
or
-
The improvisation of dance;
-
At least 3 semester credits in the
history and development of dance,
including, but not limited to:
-
The
history of dance;
-
The
styles and techniques of dance; or
-
The care and prevention of injuries
that occur during the performance of
dance;
-
At least 3 semester credits in the
kinesiology relating to the
performance of dance, including, but not limited to:
-
Anatomy
and physiology;
-
The
anatomy and physiology of exercise
for the performance of dance; or
-
The care and prevention of injuries
that occur during the performance of
dance;
-
At least 3 semester credits in the
composition of dance, including, but
not limited to:
-
An
analysis of the rhythms relating to
dance;
-
The
spatial relationships involved in
the performance of dance; or
-
The choreography of dance;
-
At least 3 semester credits in the
methods of teaching dance; or
-
At least 2 semester credits in the
techniques of dance in at least two
of the following dance forms:
-
Ballet;
-
Modern;
-
Jazz; or
-
Tap.
