To be licensed to teach 7th grade – Adult Career and
Technical Education, a person must:
-
Have
earned a high school diploma or its equivalent; and
-
Have 5 years of full-time qualifying employment*,
after age 16, in the endorsement area; and
-
Hold a license issued by the appropriate Nevada
licensing Board (if one is required by law for employment; i.e.,
Nurse, Cosmetologist) in the endorsement area.
*Clarification of Required Employment:
Three (3) of the 5 years of
employment may be met by the completion of course work or training in
the career and technical education area related to the endorsement. Each
of the following will be considered equivalent to one (1) year of
full-time employment:
-
Sixteen (16) semester credits from an accredited or
licensed postsecondary institution; or
-
Two hundred and fifty (250) hours of training from an
accredited or licensed postsecondary institution; or
-
Two thousand (2,000) hours of part-time employment;
or
-
One thousand (1,000) hours of pre-planned employment
(such as on-the-job training or apprenticeship).
First Time Renewal Requirements
A person who desires to renew for the first time an
endorsement issued pursuant to this section must provide proof that he
has received, from an accredited postsecondary institution, credit for
12 semester credits in each of the following:
-
Three semester hours in professional career and
technical education courses; and
-
Three semester hours in a course involving career and
technical education teaching methodology; and
-
Three semester hours in a course on applied and/or
work-based learning; and
-
Three semester hours in a course on career and
technical education student organization management.
NOTE: At least 3 of the required 12
semester credits must be verified by submission of
official transcripts one year from the date of
issuance of the provisional license.
You may
satisfy the first time renewal requirement by taking appropriate course
work from the list of
approved providers.
Additional Requirements for Specific Business and
Industry Endorsements
Agriculture and natural resource sciences:
This
endorsement requires industry experience in three
(3) of the following:
-
Agriculture business and marketing;
-
agriculture and natural resource sciences;
-
animal sciences/veterinarian medicine;
-
forestry;
-
horticulture;
-
floriculture;
-
landscaping; or
-
agriculture research.
Agriculture Mechanical Engineering Technology:
This
endorsement requires industry experience in agriculture construction
and agriculture power.
Automotive Service Technology:
This
endorsement requires certification by the National Institute for
Automotive Service Excellence as:
-
A
master automobile technician; or
-
An
automobile technician in all the following areas:
-
Brakes;
-
Electrical and electronic systems;
-
Engine performance; and
-
D. Suspension and steering.
Military Science (JROTC):
To teach
pupils in the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Program developed
pursuant to 10 U.S.C. 2031, you must be certified by the Secretary of
the your branch of military branch and is exempt from the U.S.
Constitution requirement and the Praxis I: Pre-Professional Skills Test.
The applicant is also exempt from first-time renewal requirements.
Building Construction:
This
endorsement requires two (2) years experience in carpentry and at least
one (1) year of experience of industry experience in any combination of
the following: Electrical, plumbing or masonry.
Commercial Arts:
This
endorsement requires industry experience in two of the following:
Advertising design, graphic or digital arts, or photography.
