In accordance with Assembly Bill 432, which became
effective July 1, 2007, if you are a licensed employee, under contract
with a public or private school in Nevada and your license will
expire during the period of your contract, which is identified
as the first day of your contract through the last day of contracted
work, your employment will not be interrupted. Your license will be
considered valid for a period of ninety (90) days from the date that you
received written notice by the school district/employer that your
license has lapsed or to the end of your current contract period,
whichever is longer. The written notice will indicate a specific date by
which you must remove any provision(s) and renew your license with the
Nevada Department of Education, Office of Teacher Licensure.
It is your responsibility to provide the letter that you
received from the school district/employer to the Office of Teacher
Licensure, along with all required documentation and fees necessary to
obtain the renewable license, no later than 5:00 p.m. on the date
identified in the letter. No further relief or extensions to the license
will be provided. Failure to renew your license by 5:00 p.m. on the date
identified in the letter will require the submission of a new and
complete initial application packet to be evaluated for a subsequent
teaching license based on requirements in effect at that time. You
must contact your school district’s Personnel Office/Human Resource
Office in regard to receiving written notification of your lapsed
license. If the above information relates to your situation,
there is no need to request an extension of your license with the Nevada
Department of Education, Office of Teacher Licensure.
NOTE: If you are employed with a public or private
school in Nevada, but your license expires while you are between
contracts, this law does not apply to you. If you are
between contracts you should review the requirements to ascertain
whether you qualify for an extension to the expiration date of your
license. If an extension is granted, no further accommodations will be
made. YOU WILL NOT SUBSEQUENTLY QUALIFY FOR AB 432.
