Comprehensive Major |
|
|
|
Thirty-six (36) semester credits
required for a major in Mathematics
must include:
-
Nine (9) semester credits
in calculus;
and
-
Twenty-seven (27) semester credits
to include coursework in each
of the following:
-
Probability
or statistics;
-
Number
theory or numerical analysis;
-
Linear algebra;
-
Abstract or modern algebra;
and
-
Finite mathematics or discrete
processes;
and
-
If additional credits are required
to fulfill the twenty-seven credit
requirement identified above, you
may choose from the following areas.
-
The
history of mathematics;
-
Euclidean
geometry;
-
Non-Euclidean geometry;
-
Mathematical computer applications,
data structures or programming;
-
Differential equations;
or
-
Real number analysis.

Comprehensive Minor |
|
|
|
Twenty-four (24) semester credit required for a minor in
Mathematics must include the following:
-
Six (6)
semester credits in calculus
courses; and
-
Eighteen (18) semester credits in:
-
Probability
or statistics:
-
Finite
mathematics, discrete mathematics,
number theory or numerical analysis;
and
-
Linear, abstract or modern algebra;
and
-
If additional credits are required
to fulfill the twenty-four credit
requirement identified above, you
may choose from the following areas:
-
Multivariate
calculus;
-
The
history of mathematics;
-
Differential equations;
-
Real number analysis;
-
Euclidean geometry;
-
Non-Euclidean geometry
and
-
Mathematical computer applications,
data structures or programming.

Note: A recipient of a
comprehensive minor in mathematics may teach in grades 7
to 12, inclusive, any course in mathematics included in
the course of study adopted by the Board up to and
including Algebra II and Geometry I.
